American McGee’s Grimm offers episodic games like the Sam & Max series of games. New episodes are released frequently and the first episode has been released today free of charge for the rest of the day. That’s right, you can download and play the first episode of American McGee’s Grimm: A Boy Learns What Fear Is for free.

The game is released at Gametap which means that users need to download and install the Gametap client to be able to download the first episode of American McGee’s Grimm. It’s not a huge deal though, just head over to the download page and download the client.

endless war3

Endless War 3 reminds me a little bit of the game Cannon Fodder that I loved to play on my Commodore Amiga 500. It does not equal Cannon Fodder in terms of game quality, humor and sound but it’s a well done game that’s fun to play.

The game puts you in different scenarios that play in the past (WW2), the present (Iraq War) and the future (Humans vs. Mutants). Each scenario consists of several maps that put the player, and sometimes some friendly AI, against enemies. The goal is to reach the map exit which usually means to eliminate all opposing forces in an area.

The character can be equipped with four weapons at start which usually means one long range weapon, one close range, a combat knife and grenades. Those weapons can be selected with the 1-4 keys on the keyboard.

The player is moved with the WASD keys, R reloads the current weapon and G drops it. New weapons can be picked up.

Most maps are locked at the beginning and can be unlocked by completing the previous map. The game is pretty hard and it usually takes a few tries before a map can be completed.

fwg bridge

Time to build some bridges to make sure the pesky animals that want to cross the gap make it safely to the other side. FWG Bridge 2 is a bridge building physics game with simple rules. The player has access to two supporting structures, made of wood and metal, and a limited amount of cash.

The wooden struts cost only a third of the metal ones but are not that strong when it comes to the supporting weight.

It is now the task of the player to build a bridge over the gap that is presented to him. The player has to start building the bridge from so called starting anchors that are placed throughout each level. Each strut that he adds provides access to another anchor originating from the end of the strut that has been placed.

The game provides access to a series of levels that have to be mastered and a short tutorial that explains the game’s basics. Each build bridge can be tested and cleared if the test was not successful.

protector

Remember the game Protector that made its round a while ago? It was one of the first Tower Defense games that introduced a map and roleplaying elements to the genre. The map connected the different levels with each other and the RPG elements gave the player enough room to experiment with certain abilities.

What can I say. The game is back with a bang. The map and several game elements of Protector: Reclaiming the Throne do look familiar but lots of things have been changed under the hood.

The first noticeable change becomes apparent in the first map. The player can only place a basic mage character or fighter on the map and change their attacks only when they level up. The previous installment provided access to four mage classes with different attacks plus several special classes like an archer or paladin that had their own unique strength and weakness.

One of the many changes are the detailed statistics that are now shown for player characters and enemies. This is very helpful for those players that want to maximize their setup by comparing stats of all possible level up combinations.

One interesting feature is the ability to combine certain attacks. A mage could for instance be trained to do fire damage and at the next level up cold damage as well which makes them more versatile when fighting against immune enemies.

Another new aspect is that warriors can now be trained to do elemental damage as well instead of only physical damage which definitely adds to their usefulness in combat.

It’s well worth playing it again considering all the changes that have been introduced.
